Hello,
I need some assistance in converting a system that was installed using OEM
media (XP SP2) to Microsoft Volume License media and PID.
I am doing this so that I no longer have to activate these systems and to
overcome the sysprep limit when I create images.
The reference system I am using was created from an image (via SMS OSD)
which is configured exactly how I want it and all has all the correct apps.
My goal is to convert this image from OEM to MVLS licensing since these
machines contain custom apps and non plugnplay devices.
I did a repair installation (see below) using the new XP SP2 MVLS media and
it worked fine to convert to MVLS. I tested my apps and configuration and
everything looked good. Also, the machine did not require activation. So
far so good...

My next step was to reinstall all the post SP2 patches. For this I am using
SMS Software Updates which contains all the approved patches for my
environment. I ran the tool and it does not report any patches as being
needed. I checked Add/Remove Programs and the registery and these patches
are NOT listed as being installed. I even ran PSINFO -h to see if it listed
the patches as being installed and it did not.
So the question is, what do I do from here? I really want to get this
system to work, otherwise I have to start from scratch.
Any suggestions?

This is so I do not have to activate the systems and there is no limitation
on sysprep. These sytems are configured exactly how I want them and I don't
want to have to start from scratch unless it is absolutely necessary.
I did a repair installation, which basically put the system back to SP2
installation, which means that none of the post SP2 patches are installed.
The repair worked and I was able to bring the system back up after the
repair and the application that were installed before worked fine and the
system did not require activation.
