convert file?

I type many reports in word 2002, then email them to be graded. When I receive them back, I get a "convert file from" box. I do not understand why, because everything is in word 2002. I cannot read any of these files, and I have no idea where to begin looking for this problem. This problem started today, as files I accessed yesterday were fine. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks for your help

Hi Stephanie

Two possibilities.

(1) File > Open. In the Files of Type box, make sure it says Word Documents
or All Word Documents.

(2) Maybe the person who is grading and returning the documents is not
saving them as Word 2002 files. Ask that person to do File > Save As, and
make sure that the "Save as Type" box says Word document.
