continuous reboot loop

My computer shuts down and restarts about 10 seconds after the desktop
appears. I'm writing this using safe mode. I've tried the following with no
luck:
--deselecting automatic restart in the system properties section
--downloaded and ran avast! antivirus (no viruses found)
--installed patch ms03-039 for the blaster worm virus

I recently replaced my 6gig seagate hd with an 80gig western digital. I
copied all content of the seagate to the wd using their software, and the
computer worked great for about a week.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks

I ran the event viewer, and many errors showed up--
under system log: service control manager, DCOM, (many times)
under application log: rasctrs, PerfDisk, userenv, PerfNet (many times) plus
many warnings for PlugPlayManager

Unfortunately, I don't know what to do about the errors, or if they are
related to the continuous reboot.
