On occassion when I place a data CD in the CD drive to look at a document
and then eject the CD, the contents of the CD seem to remain in memory as if
the CD was still in the drive.

How do I clear this effect so I can view another date cd without rebooting?

Did you eject the disk or just pull it out? If the latter, there is your
problem.

Microsoft's Autoplay repair wizard _might_ fix this problem. See this post
from late Mr.Alex Nichol, a Microsoft MVP.

It may be a fouled up autoplay setting, so that the autoinsert notification
is being lost. Microsoft people have written an unofficial fix up tool for
Autoplay. Without great confidence, I suggest you try it.

Thanks to all for replying.
What I did was what I neglected to do for a few weeks.

Basic house cleaning.
1. Internet options and deleted files.
2. Start-Run-%temp% and emptied the temp folder
3. Ran Adaware and cleaned up a few entries.
All now works. What did the trick, Your guess. My guwess is the clearing of
the :Temp: folder.
