I am new to Vista. With outlook express I created folders with specific
contacts in them. I could hit "Create Mail", click on "To" and select which
folder I wanted. then in each folder I could determine who I wanted to send
it to.

How do I arrange this same thing in Vista???

You really can't do it like in OE.
You can create folders in the Contacts folder, but they won't appear when
you click on To:
You can open the Contacts folder, open the sub-folder, and right-click on a
contact and select Action - send Email

Action did not work. A pop-up said there was no Profile, and to go to the
control panel and set one up. So I did and now it works like the old OE.
Here is what I did:
Control Panel>Mail>Show Profile>Add (give a name)
Add New Directory..>Additional Address Book>Personal Book (I gave same name)
Select the order for the names>next>OK (ok for book with no names)

Now when I send e-mail I click Contacts, select the sub-folder I have
created for the different groups (school, Girl Scouts, family, etc.) and
select the names within that group. Now right click and select Action>send
mail...and it works!!!

I'll bet it worked because you ended up in Outlook, not Windows Mail.
That's why you had to create a profile.

Settings in Control Panel >Mail only affect Outlook. It should not
affect anything in Windows Mail.

I opened the control panel but did not have "mail" icon. I was advised that
it was not possible to have sub-folders in Windows Mail so I have downloaded
Thunderbird - works like OE for the most part with a few bonus features.

Sooooo....are we all agreeing that WLM/Vista can NOT do what Pender was
hoping for. I was hoping for the same thing and just installed WLM with
expectation that I would have this feature of sub-folders in the contact
files. Like Pender, I don't want to pick through all my contacts to pick out
the selected few I might want from a sub-folder.

Thanks,
