Greetings,

Is there a way to have the contacts in the address book shadow of Outlook's
contacts list sorted by surnames and not forenames? The contacts list is
sorted by surnames, but when preparing a new message in Outlook, the 'To'
button opens the address book sorted by forenames. 'tis most annoying as
often the contacts are couples and so requires hopping about.

Thanks

Post your Outlook version when you have questions.

Depending on your version and mail support mode of Outlook, you can sort the
Outlook Address Book this way (check for your mode on the second line of the
Help menu > About):

97, 98/2000 in Corporate/Workgroup mode:
Tools menu > Services > Highlight the Outlook Address Book service > Click
Properties > Set sort order

98/2000 Internet Mail Only:
Tools menu > Address Book > View menu > Sort by

Outlook 2002/2003:
Go to Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or
address books > Outlook Address Book > Change. > Set your sort order there

Sorry, meant to include version (it is XP) - and your instructions worked.

Thank you.
