The contacts.pst file cannot be accessed from search
areas. I have tried re-attaching the file to Outlook, re-
installing Outlook, re-installing Office. I've checked
the access rights. PLEASE HELP!!!

The message that comes up reads:

The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts
folder associated with this address list could not be
opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or you do not
have permissions. For information on how to remove this
folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft
Outlook Help.

As I said, I have checked the permissions, removed the
folder... everything I can think of. Nothing works.

Thank you for any information,
Shawn

What exactly happened here? Do you have a separate PST file with Contacts or
are you referring just to your Contacts folder? What version of Outlook?

Sorry. Contacts folder. Outlook 2002.

Select Tools | E-Mail Accounts | View or change existing directories or
address books | Next | Outlook Address Book | Change.

Remove all entries listed here.

Close | Finish.

Right click your Contacts folder, select Properties, and make sure the
option to show this folder as an e-mail address book isn't checked on the
address book tab. If it is, uncheck it.

Select Tools | Address Book.

From the Address Book Window, select Tools | Options. Make sure you do not
have a Contacts folder listed here. If so, remove it.

Restart Outlook.

Now, go back into your Contacts folder's Properties, and make sure the
option to show this folder as an e-mail address book is checked on the
address book tab.

Restart Outlook again.

Any better?

Ok - Check File | Data File Management. How many Personal Folders Files are
listed? How about your Folder List (View | Folder List)? If there is more
than one, is that how it should be set up? I'm wondering if the issue here
is the fact that there is an orphaned reference to a PST file that just
doesn't exist anymore in your profile.

Data File Mgt:
2 files: one for Hotmail and one Personal Folders file.

Those are the only two in the Folder List as well.
