Outlook 2002

One of my clients is having a problem with their Contacts lookup window. If
we type a company name it only finds one entry for that company even though
there are many all in the same folder. Has anyone seen this before?

Cannot repro that behavior.
Not entirely sure what you mean by "Contacts lookup window" (several things
fit that description) nor the view in which you are conducting this search.
The information store would also be in play here.

Hi Russ

We're using the "Type a Contact To Find" window (works from anywhere in
Outlook and in any view).

I have never seen this behaviour before either and have trained in hundred
of organisations!

Thanks

Judy

In my experience that window will only apply to the current view of the
active folder.
What happens if you use it in the view of the Contacts Folder in which these
categories reside?

I only see the company lookup work some of the time, like when the company
name is in the File As field.

BTW, Judy, if you get a message from Mike Sampson, be sure to answer it. <g>

Thanks Russ and Sue.

Russ I can be in my Calendar, type a client's name (First, Last or Company)
in the "Type here to find a Contact" window and hit Enter and it opens the
Contact's record. The window works from anywhere in Outlook - it's on the
standard toolbar.

I teach that as a bit of a CRM solution for Government agencies that want to
log conversations with clients and quickly see who they are talking to.

Not here. If I type the company name in the Calendar, I get "Cannot find
requested Contact."
If I type it in the Contacts Folder, all the Contacts in that Category
appear.

I agree. Using the "Type to find a Contact" window has always produced
sporadic results at best. Advanced Find is much more consistent.
One thing that helps for users who insist on using the "Type to find..."
window is to create categories for each company. Those searches are
reliable, but I still don't see it working in non Contact Folders.

I hardly ever use Advanced Find any more, now that I have Lookout on the
toolbar.

Not sure I have the capacity to learn another new toy.
Guess I'm overdue for .NET Framework, too.
