I have a client who wants to import a bunch of Excel data into Contacts in
XP. Can I do this for him on a Vista PC, then save a wab file?

Further to this, does Vista actually have a wab file?

I don't know of any program that does that.

Windows Mail does not keep a .wab file, but can import the
contacts from one.

What, import Excel data to Contacts? In XP you can do this in OE.

It would be handy if I could use my PC (Vista) to do it.

But I guess, not the other way around.

Save it as a CSV file. Contacts can import that.

No WAB. Each contact is a separate *.contact file.

Yup, that's what I planned to do.

Thanks, so I guess this has to be done in XP.

Sort of. The WAB cam also import CSV files.
