I deleted one contacts folder in my Outlook 2003 thought were duplicates.
Now whenever I try to open my address book I get a !!!!!!!!!!!! box which
says "The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder
associated with this address list could not be opened; it may have been
moved or deleted, or you do not have permissions. For information on how to
remove this folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Office
Outlook Help.

I tried to find out how to do so in help and have had no luck. I also tried
to associate the remaining Contacts Folder to the Address Book I have it
checked to do so but still I get the same warning each time I open the
Outlook 2003 address book. How can I get it to work again?

I had found that Microsoft Knowledge Base Article and tried it. I just
tried to follow the instructions again. I do have "Show this folder as an
e-mail address book selected. However, I get the error each time I try to
open the address book to add an address in a newly opened e-mail by clicking
on the To:

Roger

Remove and re-add the Outlook Address Book Service, then, restarting Outlook
in between.

Russ,

I have done that Russ no help. The problem seems to be that the Address Book
first looks for the folder that I deleted. It does not find it and gives me
the warning I first sent in. I can then chose another Contacts folder and
the second one is the one I did not delete. It works but I always have the
same result and get the warning first.

TIA

Roger

I have a similar problem but I haven't deleted anything yet. Here's the
situation:

In OL '03 I go to my contacts folder and in the right pane I see all my
contacts in the left pane under My Contacts I see two "Contacts" icons. Both
of these files are different as once contains some of my contacts and the
other has them all and then a bunch are duplicates. How do I get rid of the
one that has missing contacts so it's gone for good?

I noticed this because my pocketpc is syncing with the "bad" file and I went
to look up a contact and it wasn't on the pocketpc but it was in the second
contact file that has all the dupes.

Any help would be appreciated; thanks.

Use Folder List view to see exactly how many Contact Folders you have in
your profile and what their hierarchy is.

how do I get to folder list view...?

I have the contacts selected and on the right I have "My contacts" which
list my contact groups, then there is current view where detailed address
cards is selected and then the next box is open shared contacts and
customize current view.

Look at the bottom bar in the Navigation Pane. Hover over the icons. See the
one that says "Folder List?"

Got it thanks; that's fixed....

Russ, while I have your attention, maybe you have an answer for this.
Outlook and Activesyn for my pocketpc haven't been playing well lately. the
resulting consequence is that whenever I disconnect my PPC I have to
shutdown outlook on the desktop using task manager.

the problem is when I restart outlook on the desktop it barks that the file
wasn't closed properly and it does a scan or something...afterward OL opens
and all seems fine EXCEPT from that point on my folder state (expanded)
isn't remembered and I have to expand some 50 folders each time. Any
thoughts on what the problem might be or a registry setting that need
fixing...any info you might have would be helpful.

Not really. These issues are covered in the Activsync groups since they are
not Outlook issues.
