Hi there,

I have trawled through this ng looking for a way to continue to use my old
address book and emails from a previous installation of Outlook on my old
computer.

I used to just copy the pst file across when I upgraded in the past but with
my new computer this does not seem to work?

I set up Outlook 2003 on my new PC and called my ISP to collect 9 new
emails.

However I cannot find the new Outlook 2003.pst file anywhere?

I can see an Outlook.NK2 (and also .srs & .xml along with an outcmd.dat) in
Documents & Settings\User Name\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook but I can
see no .pst file.

If I copy in my old Outlook.pst file into that folder though it tells me I
am replacing an existing file (!) but if I do so and restart Outlook 2003 I
still see nothing but the 9 new emails and a blank address book.

I have set it to show hidden & system files etc.

Have I missed something fundamental here?

Thanks & regards,

Copy your old pst file across as you used to do. Do NOT overwrite anything -
ie put it somewhere other than the default pst file location! (My Documents
is a good place...). Then, open Outlook and go to File-Open-Outlook Data
File. Navigate to where you put the old pst file. You can then choose to
either copy all the data into the new pst file, or use the old pst file as
the delivery location.

See if this helps:

What does "does not work" mean, exactly? How are you doing this? What
errors or other symptoms do you see?

The PST default location is C:\Documents and Settings\{user}\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Overwriting a PST is BAD business. Apparently the PST yoou're overwriting
is not currently open in Outlook, so you probably haven't damaged anything.
