I recently ported my all my data from Office 2000 to Office 2003. All the data is there. However, I cannot access my contact address in the WORD labels or Envelope address book. Outlook is my default mail program. I have also made sure that contacts is an address book. I am not on an Exchange server.

Why can't you? Tell us what happens when you try. Tell us what you mean by
"ported all my data..." Are you sure you configured the Outlook Address Book
to use your "ported data?"

I purchased a new computer and installed XP Pro and Office 2003. I am on
a network so,I used the automated utility in XP to transfer my data from the
old 2000 system to the new system. Outlook is fine, my contacts are there
etc. I have made sure that Outlook is my default mail program on the new
system. I have also made sure that my contacts are displayed as an address
book and are searched first in Outlook.
When I try to access the address book icon in the labels and address
dialogue box in WORD, I receive an error message:
"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot
fulfill the messaging request. Please run MS Office Outlook and set it as
the default mail client."
Then I click on "OK" and receive another error message:

"Logon failed. You must log on to MS Exchange to access your address
book. Error code: Unspecified error"
I am not using Exchange. I am using a pop3 account.

I suspect that they is a path problem or for that WORD expects these
addresses to be in the main address book. They are not, they are in the
contacts.

I am not sure what you mean here. I am running as administrator. I have not indicated a data path etc. on the profile.

I used the automatic utility in MS Outlook to transfer my data from my old 2000 system. Everything appears to be fine in my contacts, my folders etc. All address are in my contact folder in Outlook. I have checked the dialogue box to use this list as my address book. However, I still can't print labels. I receive the same error messages as previous.

And what would that error message be? You still haven't posted it.
To what "automatic utility" are you referring?
Ensure that you have configured your Outlook Address Book correctly in the
Outlook Profile that Word is using for the merge. Make sure your Outlook and
Word versions match. List the steps you are using for the mail merge.
