For past half hour or so I cannot sign onto MSN Messenger service. Keeps
telling me that contact list is unavailable--although I still can connect to
Internet thru local ISP.

Does anyone know for sure what is going on???

As in scotland,
suspect the service has crashed as per message
bellow.regards (ps now running)

not only can i not log into msn but is no longer on my computer woke up this
morning and msn is no logger in my programs tryed to download it again and it
will not let me. does anyone know whats going on. Windsor ontario

the same is happening to me rigth now and im about to loose it!!!. I
unistalled msn 6.2 but when i went to msn.com, it would let me download it
again.

oh man its the same over here in hamilton ontario. It keeps saying that my
contact list is unavailable. So i uninstalled msn 6.2 and when i tried to
download it again, it wouldnt let me. My windows messenger inst working either

Looks like a worldwide outage. I'm in So. California and I've been
experiencing these same symptons for the past 24 hrs. Let's see how
Microsoft is going to spin this one.

msn is having a problem with a virus i am hearing not sure when it will be
up and
runninghttp://support.msn.com/networkstatusresults.aspx?ProductNum=100&ProductLocId=458 click here for updates on what going on

what i don't understand is why is it also gone off my computer i have looked
in add and remove programs and it is no whaere to be
found??????????????????????????

If in fact the outage was caused by a global virus, the last thing
anyone should be doing is trying to load or re-install MSN Messenger.
I'd steer clear of it until MS makes an official announcement,
declaring it repaired and safe to logon again.

I found this elsewhere...

"The MSN server has just been hit with a Worm Virus and is getting
service problems worldwide. Best to stay off Messenger and check for
news updates (from a reliable source such as MSN, of course).
This worm will compromise a system if infected."

Hi,

On what grounds are you taking such a stand? It sure isn't routine
maintenance, that's for sure.
MS usually does "maintenance" in the wee hours and they usually only
last minutes to maybe 1 hour. If you know something everyone does not,
then please feel free to elaborate. Otherwise, statements like "not
true" or "there is no virus" have no credibility.

I should clarify... I know that article is old but...

It has happened before, and will happen again.

The difference between the incidence in July 2001 and yesterday was that in
July 2001 MS took the system off line. Whereas yesterday it was not
completely blocked, we were able to intermittently access MSN and Windows
Messengers.
