constantly writing

My PC seems to be constantly writing to the hard disk, with mouse pointer every five second indicating that it is working in the background, and light flashing constantly
I would appreciate any suggestion.
 
Update your virus software and run a virus scan.
Sometimes over processing can be a virus.

Check the task manager to see the applications running,
processes, and performance.
