Hi There,

We have a small business with three computers, all with
Word 2000, and they all work nicely except the one, it
seems like it has the Show/Hide button on all the time -
but it doesn't - acutally, the show/hide button doesn't do
anything because it is always showing the characters no
matter what. As well, when you go to insert something
like a picture - it doesn't insert the picture, it just
inserts the file and path name, the picture ends up
printing out just fine, but it makes it a little hard to
align whatever you've inserted when you can't see it.
This is a frustrating problem and it would be great if I
could find out what is wrong, and hopefully it can be
fixed.
Thanks.

And for the second problem, clear the check box for "Field codes" on the
View tab of Tools | Options (or press Alt+F9).

Hi There,
I know I just wrote a thanks, and I am thankful-that did
work great, however when I insert a picture it is still
not right. It will give you a big square where it should
be but all you get is a border, you can't see the picture,
or if you are lucky and you go to edit picture, when you
close it, it will change it to something like {Embed
Word.Picture 8} Which when you print it works but I'd
really prefer to see the picture, can you help me with
that?

Guess I should have read your whole post! Press Alt+F9 to toggle off display
of field codes... that should change the { EMBED } field into a picture or a
picture placeholder. Then click on Tools | Options | View tab | uncheck the
"Picture placeholders" box | check the "Drawings" box | Print tab | uncheck
the "Field codes" box | check the "Drawing objects" box | OK.
