The H/D LED flashes about once every second 24/7 on my computer, (XP Home
Edition) Otherwise all seems OK. I have tried stopping all start up programs
via msconfig. I have booted to safe mode. The LED still flashes. There are
no viruses that Symantec Antivirus can find. The only clue I can find is the
files in "C:\windows\system32\whem\repository\FS" folder are accessed
continually.

Thank you, Ken

You must have Auto play enabled. The computer is just polling the cdrom
drive(s). That's normal.

Thank you for the interest, I have auto stopped on both CD drives
(properties) and also from tweak-ui have auto play unchecked. The HD LED
still continues to flash

THe HD light is more strictly an 'IDE Controller light' and flashes each
time there is any action on the controllers - most probably the system
checking every second or so to see if the disk in the CD drive has been
changed

This brings up the next 2 questions. I have a similar computer beside this
one that does not flash the HD LED. I do not recall it doing so when I first
set it up. How would I stop the checking every second? Thank You, Ken
