Hello
Im currently taking care of a relatives laptop that has been running poorly
for a little while now.
Thus far: the expected trojans, viruses, and adware which were causing
various annoying problems. I think I got them all after many scans and
registry checks for suspect entries... etc etc. I was running bitdefender
online and part of the way through (which found a couple more viruses) I
got the BSOD (and other times before with other software) about "multiple
irp"
Thus usual stuff. One problem has been a constant read/write to the drive
after every startup. It lasts a couple minutes (I didnt really time it to
be exact).
The logs did show a couple bad clusters, chkdsk caught and fixed 2 of them.
Indexing is shut off, as is the system restore... done for the scans. I
havent run defrag yet. But Im curious if this read/write at startup sounds
familiar.
oh... and I did put spybot/adware etc on the machine before. But both they
and the AV software is now gone. Im not sure I want to ask them how, or who
did it ;o)
