constant buffering

Since updating Windows Media Player 9 when listening to internet stations has become filled with buffering or a message that says poor signal. I never had this problem before, but 2 of the sites I listen to changed their method of transmission which required me updating my WMP9. Help! I don't think I should have to upgrade to broadband. Other sites that use Real Player work fine.
