How do I take control of the console, like when you
connect to a Windows XP Professinal PC.

You can't do that if the server is running Windows 2000 Server. If the
server is running Windows Server 2003 it is possible with the latest
versions of the Remote Desktop Client, i.e. the one that comes with XP.
In that case, add /console to the command line to mstsc.exe.
