I recently added CONSERVATIVEswapFILEusage=1

W xp changed that to ;MSCONFIG CONSERVATIVEswapFILEusage=1

Why?

That is a W98 tweak in system.ini. XP don't use such files. There are
here only to assure compliance. Don't matter about this. XP manage very
efficiently the swap file.

This DOES actually work with XP and isn't merely a "holdover" from
98se. However, if you typed it the way I see it, that may be the
problem.

Try typing it like this:

ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1

(C,S&U capitalized, no spaces)

Where did you read that it works under Wxp?

Only applies to Windows 98, and by the way a key value of 1 will
actually degrade 98's performance. You can add keys/values all day
to XP but if not referenced or called they do nothing.
