Running XP SP2.

My connection status says I am working at 1 mbs however I have done tests
which says that it is quicker. Can I change this? I am in the middle of a
speed increase by my ISP.

Netgear ADSL Modem Wireless Router. The issue is with the router connected to
my desktop.

Probably the first thing to do would be to improve signal strength between
the router and your computer. Relocate one or both until you get a better
signal and a faster connection to the router should result.

Barring that you could try locking the wireless adapter to a fixed speed but
that often results in frequent disconnects if the signal is that poor.

With WiFi, there are dozens of reasons why your speed can fluctuate. Some you
can fix easily, others you can't.

Do a site survey using NetStumbler. This detects WiFi problems.

Maybe a path analysis using PingPlotter. This detects network problems,
Ethernet and WiFi.
