I just built a computer last night and installed win XP professional on it.
Today I tried to hook it up to my dsl modem to get the internet and it
wouldn't work. The computer recognizes that there's a connection there but
fails to connect to it. Someone said something about DHCP being diabled but I
don't know anything about that...please help!

This probably can be handled by your ISP. They should be able to provide
the necessary support to get you online with them.
(What does the 'S' stand for in ISP?)

heheh, Yeah, I e-mailed them about it, but verizon takes a long time to get
back with people about things so i tried here.

ah... Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, I am not familiar enough about
Verizon to advise you.

I can tell you that DHCP (basically) refers to how your computer gets an IP
address. There are 2 methods: static and dynamic. Most ISP's these days are
setup for dynamic (DHCP). Espcially the big boyz, like Verizon, I would
expect to be DHCP.
