Connection problem...kind of unusual one.

Recently when I turn my computer off, put it in standby or use hibernate my
ability to connect to the internet is impaired. Whether wired or wireless,
everything says I am connected and there is NO message stating that there is
limited or no connectivity. Yet, when I open my browser or email program, I
cannot access the internet.

Sometimes, if I close it and reopen the browser, I will be able to view web
pages. Most often, I need to restart.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

XP or Vista? Router or direct to ? which router? what firmware?

what happens if you "repair" the connection?

need some details please.

I am using XP Home. It happens when I use my wireless router at home and at
work. It also happens when I use the wired connection to my router at work.
Resetting the router does nothing...it reconnects, says connected but I
cannot view webpages or download e-mail. I think that something may be wrong
in the registry. I had a problem uninstalling zonealarm after a failed
upgrade. At that time I kept getting the limited or no connectity msg. I
finally used winsockxpfix.exe and connectivity was restored but I still have
this glitch. I am using a dell d610 latitude.

ugh. zone alarm. how long ago did you have the failed upgrade and
the bad uninstall? do you have a restore point before all of this
you can go back to?

Unfortunately, after the failed upgrade and difficult uninstall I tried to
restore. I have been unable to restore to ANY earlier point, even the
restore point I set before the uninstall.

If it were me, I would not want to use a system in such an unstable
state. I'd probably save my data and then do a format and clean
reinstall. You could try saving your data externally and doing a
repair install if you have the XP CD.
