My daughter has Windows XP on a Compaq Presario at
college. She has loaded the latest security updates. She
started getting a pop-up window that says "Connection
Failure" and has a button labeled "OK". The Window is
titled "Shit". Sorry to be graphic, but there it is. There
doesn't seem to be any result by pressing the button,
except that it just comes back after about 30 seconds. In
any case she has no problem with he connection to the
school network and the Internet. My question: What is
causing this pop-up and how do I get rid of it?

Your daughter downloaded an .exe or an email with an
attached .exe. Need to get rid that file. Have her search
by date all .exe's installed about the time it started. If
that doesn't work, download NoPops at http://www.jpsoft.
dk/download.html. good luck.
