I have 2 XPHome machines that connect to a broardband
Router. The ISP is NTL. the Router is configured to see
this ISP. When I turn on both PC's they automaticly see
the internet without any troubles plus they can also see
eachother as i have made a workgroup called 'TOBYSOFT'.
both machines can ping eachother as well. This is all
normal and didn't take no time at all to setup.

My problem:

Another PC was bought with XPHOME on it which also has a
network card built into the motherboard which is an
AMDTeck (i think). when i put a straight through Cat5
cable into the socket and then connect the other end to
the router it says connection established. The router
gave the machine an ip address and set the default gateway
using DHCP. I rebooted, but the machine is unable to see
the internet.. nor can it see the other machines on the
workgroup. The machine is also not able to PING the other
machines or the router itself. it an only ping itself.

I have uninstalled the network card, then reinstalled. i
uninstalled Nortans firewall and also disabled all the
other firewalls on the network card. I've ran the network
setup lots of times using different options.

All this still leads to the same conclusion that it can't
even ping let alone see the internet and other machines.
I've worked in networking for 3 years now for a company
and i'm doing my nut about it. i've spent 5 days. Please
please please if anyone has any info let me know.

Thanx

Toby,

what other firewalls? To install more than one software firewall
may be inviting disaster.

Uninstall all software firewalls for a test. It is not always
enough to disable them.

For more details please have a look at the relevant chapters of

Hi Hans-Georg,

The other firewalls are just Nortons and the standard
XPHOME edition firewall service that comes on the network
connection.

So what happened when you uninstalled Norton and disabled the
built-in firewall?
