Hello.
I have a 2.5" Hitachi Travelstar 40Gb external hardrive
and I'm trying to connect on my pc to the USB 2 port
(running XP-Home edition. It connects and recognizes it
and I see it with correct information in the device
manager.
But it does not show eiter on My Computer nor in the Disk
Manager.
What could be the problem, anyone got a clue ?

Regards Nils

I have the same problem with a Hitachi travelstar 5K80 with 80 GB sp you are not alone....

I have the same problem. My HD260 unit is recognized in the hardware manager,
but I don't get a drive letter anywhere. diskmanager does not see it as well.
As harddrive, I've tried several different drives, with the same results.
Have you been able to resolve the problem?

Hans

Sounds like a driver issue to me. Where does the device show up in Device
Manager? Does it show up under Disk Drives or under USB?

Jeff, I agree, but I didn't install any drivers. The drive comes with
a disk for Win98, but the manual states that Win2K and XP should
recognize the unit automatically. And it does, up to a point...
I checked the device manager: the unit appears under disk drives as
"IBM-DJSA-220 USB device", and under USB as "USB Mass Storage Device".
This looks good, but the drive doesn't get a drive letter, and it is
not available under the computer manager/disk manager.
I checked for new drivers, but I'm all up to date...
Also tried to use external power, but no difference.

I'd appreciate any help...

Hans
