I have read a lot of the posting on this site and I am still confused. Can
you or can you not connect a Windows XP Home computer to an existing Windows
NT network?

I have read several of the postings, some say no, others give help to links
which I don't quite understand.

Someone named Chuck has answered a previous posting with the suggestion of
making sure the DNS Server is running. Where is it? on the server?

If we purchase Windows XP Professional will it be easier to establish the
connection to the existing NT Network and use all the resources on the
Network, Printserver and all the Workstations?

All workstations and printserver are running WIN98SE.
It's strange that this new computer can access the server harddrive(and
directories) and printer, but cannot access any other computer on the
network.

The ipconfigs are supplied for reference.

Bill,

You can join an XP Pro computer to a domain, and access resources thru Active
Directory authentication. You need DNS properly configured, so the XP Pro
computer can locate the domain controller, and authenticate.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/windows-xp-on-nt-domain.html>

An XP Home computer can still use DNS to locate a server, but it will not
authenticate thru the domain controller - with XP Home, you have to create local
accounts on both the client and the server.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html#DomainClient>

If there is a DNS server, it may be running on the domain controller, or it may
be separate. The IPConfigs above show two computers on one subnet, using DNS
servers on another subnet. Is this a domain? I'm betting it's a workgroup, but
ipconfig doesn't show that.

A domain is a specific network relationship of computers. Are these computers
in a domain or a workgroup?
