Hi... btw thanks for the help with the bridge.dll error -
have now got it fixed:o)

Onto the next problem... my father uses tesco.net to
connect to the internet. However recently every time he
logs onto his laptop the window for dialling up pops up
and he closes it so it pops up again and again and so on
and so forth stating that SVCHOST.EXE has made a request?

How can i stop this from happening please? He only wants
this box to pop up when he double clicks on the internet
icon if you get what i mean!!

.....can you tell im trying to tidy his pc up today.....

Something is trying to connect to the internet on startup. The probability, if he hasn't
added any new software, or changed any settings, that there's spyware/malware on the
laptop. There are many posts with advice for downloading free utilities for scanning the
drive for spyware/malware. I recommend the free standard version of Ad-Aware:

http://www.lavasoftusa.com

If it isn't spyware/malware, click Start button/Run
Type: msconfig
Click the OK button
Click the Startup tab,and scroll through the Startup items to see if there's anything
there that might use an internet connection.

Also, update antivirus definitions, and scan all files on the drive.

Also, if you don't have the Windows XP firewall enabled, enable it. Better still,
download and install the latest free version (not the trial version but the FREE version)
of the Zone Alarm firewall.

Click on the link on the bottom: ZoneAlarm Free Download. During Install you'll be asked
which version you want to install. Opt for the Free Standard Version. DO NOT INSTALL the
trial version of Zone Alarm Pro.

This group isn't relevant either. Tesco net provides customised diallers
and you should address your problem to Tesco support. The solution will
depend upon which dialler you use and which tariff you connect to tesco
with.

Hi Kerry,

Common issue for many users.

Right click My Network Places/Properties/Advanced (top toolbar)/Dial-Up
Preferences/Enable Auto-Dial by Location/Uncheck all locations and check off
always ask me before auto dialing. Also, Disable autodial while I am logged
on.

In the Enable Auto-Dial By Location dialog box, select each location for
which you want the automatic dialing feature to operate. Reboot.

Disable or Enable AutoDial (Line 91)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To view the list of names and addresses recorded by AutoDial, type the
following command at a command prompt: rasautou -s

To delete a name or address entry from the list: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\RAS Autodial\Addresses

You can delete any TCP/IP addresses that you see under this key. Note that
AutoDial can use IP addresses, DNS fully qualified domain names (FQDN), and
NetBIOS names.

Disable "Log on using dial-up connection" box pop-up (Line 77)
