The company's LAN is connected to the internet via a
Linksys RV082 router. Running XP Home, I would like to be
able to access the LAN from a remote location. Is this
possible? If so, are there directions that a novice can
follow?

Virtual Private Network (VPN).

In XP go to start > Help > search and type in VPN

Been there, done that. Linksys recommended setting up the
IPSec similar to the BEFVP41 router but that didn't work
either. Someone else said that XP Professional would
solve the problem. Think so?

Sorry I missed the part about XP Home.

The way I went was to get a VPN router (Netgear FVS318). With this router
you can make up to 8 VPN connections to the router. Operating system makes
no difference as the VPN is to the router not a specific computer on the
LAN.

But if they are running an NT domain XP/home won't be able to join the
domain.
