I have recently upgraded my windows NT domain to windows 2003 AD, the upgrade
process went OK, all the FSMO roles are configured to point to my new DC, and
DNS is installed and configured OK.

However I have a few windows 2000/XP workstations that altough they can log
into the domain without issue and see all network computers when I try to
access a share on the new server I am prompted with a username and password
dialog box, and no matter what I enter here I cannot gain access to the
share, even when I use the administrator user name and password.

Can anybody help please

try quantify the login with

domain_name\user_name

and see if that helps.

Check also that the NT Share has permissions setup correctly e.g. Everyone
is now given Read-only NT Share access in W2k3 (vs. Full Control in W2k)

Hi Desmond

I have tried connecting using the domain_name/User_name option but that
doesn't make any difference, all shares for now are everyone full control

Just to clarify, are you trying to access "the new share" configured on the
new DC you upgraded, or does it already exist on a separate old NT Server
where continued access attempt is made?

You may want to delete and recreate the NT share and see if it helps. If you
allow Everyone Full Control, make sure that NTFS permissions are align to
control access.

See "Saving and restoring existing Windows shares" at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;125996

Migration of old NT accounts has this sIDHistory property that in part was
designed to mitigate such problems. Did you correctly deploy with ADMT, for
example?

Hi

The shares are existing shares on an old NT box (previously PDC), most of
the workstations can access the shares without issue it's mostly our TS
server which cannot access them.

I did not use ADMT as this was an in place upgrade from a NT domain to a
2003 AD network.

As we had a new server with an OEM server 2003 I could not upgrade this
server from NT to 2003, so I had to use a stageing server running NT, which
was a BDC on the NT network, I then promoted this to be the PDC, then
installed 2003 and ran the AD wizard to create my forest etc...

Then I brought my new server on line with a fresh copy of 2003, ran the AD
wizard on this server, transfered all roles to it, installed DNS etc, then
finally removed to staging server from AD.

But I think something has gone a miss somehwere

Regards
