I have some difficulty when trying to access some computers on the network (
I have administrator privileges).

For example I can connect to the C drive on computer LRC-Q11 by clicking
start -----> Run - typing \\LRC-Q11\c$ and pressing OK.

However when tring to access another computer even with a similar name eg
LRC-Q012 I receive the message :

"LRC-Q012 is unavailable . You may not have sufficient rights to access this
resource. LRC-Q012 path cannot be found"

Identical results are obtained when using network neighbourhood.

I cannot understand this.

Suggestions please ?

Which version of Windows XP is running on LRC-Q012? XP Home or Pro? If Pro, is
Simple File Sharing enabled? If disabled, is there a non-Guest account,
properly activated for network use?

If not an authentication problem, one of the most common causes of this problem
would be a misconfigured or overlooked personal firewall, or other security
component. There are several other possibilities too, and any might be the cause
of your problem. Read this article with an open mind.

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from LRC-Q11 and
LRC-Q012 (interesting naming variance there - couldn't be a typo??), so we can
diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow
instructions precisely (download browstat!):

Enjoy the reads. I enjoyed the writes. :)

If you want to access shares like C$, you need to setup non-Guest
authentication, which means disabling Simple File Sharing. Remember Guest can't
access C$ shares.
