I have Windows XP running on my new Dell system. I have another Dell system running Windows 2000. They are both on the same workgoup name of home. I have created a user with the same name on each pc and want to connect to the Windows 2000 system from my XP system. However whenever I try to connect I get a message saying the I do not have the correct privildges and to conect the administrator. I have ensure I have the user setup correctly and the directories are shared. I have even ensure the XP firewall is turned off. If I setup the ftp server and create the signon for the user I can actually ftp to the Windows 2000 pc. Can anyone tell me how to connect my XP system to the Windows 2000 system via the workgoup.

Greetings --

On the WinXP PC, create local user account(s), with password(s),
that have the desired access privileges to the desired shares. Log on
to the other PCs using those account(s), and you will be able to
access the designated shares, provided your network is configured
properly. Also, make sure that WinXP's built-in firewall
is disabled on the internal LAN connection.

On the Win2K PC, create local user account(s), with password(s),
that have the desired access privileges to the desired shares. Log on
to the other PCs using those account(s), and you will be able to
access the designated shares, provided your network is configured
properly.

Usually, WinXP's Networking Wizard makes it simple and painless --
almost entirely automatic, in fact. There's a lot of useful,
easy-to-follow information in WinXP's Help & Support files, and here:
