How you can do this depends on the capabilities of the all-in-one printer
driver. Not all are capable of network operation, some only with limits.

But the easiest thing to do if both machines are on the same router is to
turn on file and printer sharing on the PC, set the printer to Shared, and
install the driver on the laptop - pointing it to a printer on the network.
But, not all printer functions may work. You'll have to check.

Alternately, and this will limit your mobility, you can find printer
switchboxes.

HTH

Laptop must be able to access the PC - and should be able to do so via the
router-verify via "NetworK" option.

Next: Start>Control Panel>Printers and Faxes>Sharing option>Select "Share
this printer" (note name given). A little "hnad" will appear under the
printer icon.

The Printers and Faxes item may be available via the Start menu.

When you select to print on the laptop the printer should be available -
keep in mind that the scanner function will not be available - only print.

Host should be the desktop PC and Guest the laptop.
Install the printer on the Host PC. Then using Control Panel>Network
Setup Wizard, enable File & Printer Sharing and make sure you check the
box to allow others to print to your printers. Next under Start>Settings>
Printers, select the printer, check the box to share the printer and assign
a name. Keep the name short, no blanks, something like Printer2.

You should now be able to add the printer to your Guest PCs using Start>
Control Panel>Printers & Faxes>Add Printer. Check the radio button
"A network printer ..." and then either browse for the printer or enter its
name (using \\PCName\PrinterName) and continue until finished. Ensure
that the firewall on your XP PC is set to allow access to remote printers.
If using XP's native firewall ensure that File and Printer Sharing is
enabled and that the box with he same name is checked in the Firewall
exceptions list. The PCName can be found at:

Rightclick My Computer icon on desktop>Properties>Computer Name tab.
It may look something like: "Home-66djksjcpv". Don't type the quotes.
Click "Next" and it should install the printer on the Guest PC when
it finds it.

Note: You can follow the same procedure to get access to
"Files" from one PC to the other.

in addition to the other
responses:

if the printer is plug n play
and uses a usb, you can simply
unplug the printer from one computer
and simply plug it into the usb port
of another that you want to print with.

just be sure that both computers
have the drivers installed for your
printer.

also, a usb hub can help too that
way the printer usb connector
can be accessiable if you have
one of those pc's with the usb ports
on the backside.
