My Mother had just bought Windows XP Notebook and
connected to her network which includes a Windows XP
desktop and a Windows Me desktop which are all connected
through the Linksys Wireless G router. Before connecting
the Notebook computer, she had no problems with the
internet connection. Though as soon as she connected the
Notebook computer the Windows Me computer lost
connection. So what I want to ask is if it sounds like
she needs to re-run the router software to aknowledge
there is a third computer? Though, I called Comcast and
they said that all Linksys products should detect when
you are connecting another computer to it's device. Does
anyone have any ideas why would Windows Me now is unable
to connect?

You shouldn't need to do anything to the router's setup to add a
computer to the network.

Run the Network Setup Wizard on the new notebook, and tell it that the
computer connects to the Internet through a residential gateway
(router).

If that doesn't fix the problem, make sure that the new notebook
doesn't have the same IP address as any of the other computers. To
see the IP address on XP, right-click the network connection and click
Status | Support. To see the IP address on Me, go to Start | Run |
Winipcfg and select the network adapter from the menu.

Thanks Steve. I will post updates in here if I have
anymore problems. Also I have a question about my setup.
On my setup I am using a Linksys Firewall Router, cable
wired, that prevouisly was connected to my Windows XP and
Windows 98 First Edition computers. I had ran the Network
Wizard and everything was working great. Now though I got
rid of my Windows 98 system and bought another Windows XP
system. So what I wanted to know now is if I need to re-
run the Network Wizard again, and if I need to uninstall
my previous setup? If I do need to uninstall the previous
setup how would I go about that?

Run the Network Setup Wizard on the new Windows XP system. There's
nothing to uninstall. There's no reason do anything on the router or
on the other computers.
