Connecting 2 Computers

We are trying to network 2 computers for a gaming session. We have ethernet
and are trying to connect directly with a CAT6 cable, but it keeps saying the
cable is unplugged (it is not). Can we connect directly like this?

The cable that you have is for connecting a computer to a hub or
switch. It won't work to connect two computers to each other, and
both computers will say that it's unplugged.

Connecting two computers to each other requires a crossover Ethernet
cable. Crossover cables are available at computer and office supply
stores. This site has information on how to wire a crossover cable:
