i'm at a complete loss here so i would be eternally gratefull to anyone who can offer any help.

windows xp home, Hotfix Q819696 (i don't know if you need that information but thought i would post it just in case)

i have another computer networked to this one, mine being the host computer. i connect to the internet, no problem, and the other networked computer is online too. everything is fine for anything between 10 mintues and an hour, then, when i try to open a web page it's like i'm not connected anymore. i know i'm still online because MSN mesenger will still connect and run, and the other networked computer can broswe with no problems. i have run virus programs and i'm not infected. i have also run an updated adaware and fixed the probs on there but i am still having this problem. i think all this started happening after running windows update and now i can't fix it.

please help!!

I'm having similar problems. When I start pc I can get online with IE and other programs then after a while (hour or so) I can't access online pages anymore with IE. Sometimes I still can get online with other programs, sometimes I can't access anything. I just reinstalled and updated my os (i had a Sasser variant before I resinstalled). Any ideas on what may be killing my access?

im still at a complete loss. do you think i should try uninstalling and reinstalling internet explorer? i have version 6.0.2800.1106. and if so, can anyone help me with this! i wouldn't know where to begin because it's not in add/remove programs and i can only seem to find instructions via microsoft help on how to uninstall up to version 5. i have done the 'ping' thing and all 4 were fine. i have noticed that if i try to 'ping' while online, ipconfig won't even open, is this normal?

thanks again

If you are using an e-mail client, are you able to use that? It sounds
like the problem is exclusive to Internet Explorer. It could be a
browser hijacker of some sort. One that seems to cause the most trouble
is CoolWebSearch. Both Adaware and Spybot don't seem to detect it. You
can download a program called CWShredder that should take care of it if
that is the problem.

HijackThis should be able to take care of any other browser hijackers.

CWShredder and HijackThis

thanks eric

i use hotmail for my emails, but can't acces the pages. the only thing i can do when my internet fails, is use msn messenger, or yahoo chat. basically only the things that don't actually require access via a web page. ran CWShredder, then adaware, spybot and hijack this again, but i am still having the problem. do you think a uninstall and reinstall of internet explorer will help?

thanks again
