I have purchased a 7 disk HP CD ROM server from a salvage place. I thought it
would be plug and go, no more scratched game disks. WRONG!!!

This is a SCSI device but has a built in SCSI to ethernet adapter. I have
connected it to my home network but no matter what I try I can not see it on
the network.

Am I in over my head?

This is probably not going to be solved best in this forum, it's probably not a
Windows XP issue. If your server is running ip, and if it's working, the next
step is to find out what ip address it uses. Did it come with a manual? If
not, try posting the model name or number. Maybe a Google or Yahoo search will
pull up information. But "HP CD ROM server" doesn't help at all.

Thanks Chuck,

I am thinking this is a windows XP Pro home networking issue. I have used
the wizard to set up my network, it has 4 computers on it and all works fine.
The HP J3278A CD_ROM Server tower is purchased used with no software or
documentation. I have searched the net only to find several things that are
way over my head, almost none dealing with a simple windows XP Pro home
network situation.

This is a SCSI tower, but has a RJ-45 network card that is some SCSI to
network adapter I guess. I am a tier 1 helpdesk tech in local govt, but, as I
said this particular issue is over my head. I was hoping that this device
would be the answer to my scratched games. If I get it working I planned to
use the SCSI connection to connect another tower to house my kids home
schooling disks also.

Thanks for the reply Chuck.

Well I did a Yahoo search, and came up with:
<http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=bpe01313>

There's a link there "download drivers and software", following that you get
eventually to:
<http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...cBasepartNum=cs100en&os=Cross+OS&tech=Utility>

Where that goes is your guess. I don't see "Windows XP" in there yet, so
whether this is the correct forum for this discussion is your call.

Hi,

I read through the install information that GTS posted the URL for and
it's pretty straight forward, Download the setup manual and follow it
for the IP assign and windows networks,, it looks pretty easy to
install from the manual
