1) With W95 (yes, a long time ago), to be able to record voice was easy: only
have to plug in my microphone.

2) Now I have a PC with Windows XP without Microsoft Office (Word, ...)
because of my budget.

I plugged in my microphone and no possibility to record the voice. I have
gone through the help and tried what was suggested

2.1) Control Panel:
Open Speech in Control Panel: OK
Select the Speech Recognition tab: This tab does not appear.
So, it seems that I have to install first Speech Recognition

2.2 Install speech recognition from MS Word 2002

I do not have Word

2.3 To install speech recognition using Add or Remove Programs

Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel: OK
Click Change or Remove Programs, click Microsoft Office XP, and then click
Change: Microsoft windows XP does not appear; only Windows XP Service pack 2
with only the option "remove"

Could somebody help me?

It works exactly the same as 95. You sound like you are adjusting Speech volume which is pointless as you don't have it. Just open Volume control like in 95, Options menu - Properties - select Recording.

Speech is a free download. Search on Speech SDK (you have to take the programming docs with it).

It's pretty much the same as in Windows 95. Use Sound Recorder.

Try...

Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Sound recorder
