Hi,I am just in the process of upgrading my set up from Windows98, I am
having new desktop box built with an AMDAthalon 2500 Processor DVD/CD RW
Plus bells and whistles Etc. I have an OEM WidowsXP with the mother board
and someone has been telling me that you can't do a Clone/Ghost with
WindowsXP. What I intended to do was set the WindowsXP up with all the
programs that I want on it, register the set up and when it was running as I
wanted it I was going to do a Clone/Ghost and then I could copy this back to
the C drive if ever I got the drive and WindowsXP screwed up in any way.
please tell me if I can do this or not and if not why not.
Many thank Mike
PS Where can I get information on the best way of running WindowsXP?

There is no reason this should not work for you. Imaging does work on XP
partitions.

Sure, that's a good plan. I keep an image of my system drive on another
drive for just such emergencies. I'd suggest doing your Ghosting from a
bootable DOS disk and having the drive where you will store the images
formatted in FAT32 to simplify access.

Just read these newsgroups. Once you learn to ignore the kooks they can
be a good place to get started.

Thank you very much, I shall see my informative friend and put him right

Seems this place is full of Michaels.
That's exactly what I did with my windows98 set up and now intend to do the
same with windowsXP, I will also use the FAT32 all the time I think.

Why?! Unless you plan to dual boot with an OS that cannot read it, NTFS is
the way to go, providing greater performance and security.

Not to mention that 4 KB cluster use a lot less disk space than 32 KB clusters!

1 desktop icon (say 900 b) in NTFS uses 1 4K cluster, in FAT32 the same icon would use 1 32K cluster! You can have 7 more (8) icons in the same space that 1 icon occupies in FAT32 if you use NTFS.

Good point, Jeffrey!
