Confused about connection icons...

I have two wireless icons on my sys tray, and they are both on: the
windows xp wireless link as well as the icon for the wireless card.
Is this normal or do I have two processes running at once?

You have two processes running - the Windows Wireless Zero Configuration
(WZC) service and whatever program your wireless card uses to configure
itself. I'd be willing to bet that only one is actually active and you
should disable the one you didn't use to configure the card.
