Hi!
I've reinstalled win xp home without removing the former version. Now
often (not always) at the boot I'm asked which version to run, but only
the newer runs indeed..
Thank you 4 any help!

If you reinstalled expecting a clean install, you need to format first to
remove the old Windows install before you reinstall or you'll get what
you're getting now.

Yes, in fact I had upgraded the first partition from 98 to xp but the
2nd one became unbootable: so I reinstalled xp there, without
formatting not to loose data..

I know, that's what caused your problem. You should have moved your data to
a backup or another partition first.

Yes, I should have done. I didn't expect that installing xp on a
partition would cause troubles on the other..

I have two instances of XP on separate partitions on the same drive.
The only problems I have had were with file permissions (unable to
access or change files of one installation while running the other
installation) and I had to make sure not to have both installations'
system restore monitoring the same partitions.
