I am working with XP and wanting to install usb-serial cable to connect a
Walcom Intous tablet. I have installed (I think) an adapter and there are
notes on Wacom saying "configure the adapter to emulate Com1 with IRQ4 and
adress 3F8". I have NO IDEA what that is, and want to check it before I go on
to the tablet install. HELP PLEASE

Right-click "My Computer", Properties, Hardware tab, "Device Manager" button, expand (+) "Ports
(COM & LPT)", double-click your COM adapter, "Port Settings" tab, click the "Advanced" button,
and use the spin box to select COM1, OK your way out, and reboot.

Note: COM1 is already set as IRQ4 and address 3F8 by default.
Also, if you see "COM1 (in use)", you'll have to change the device that's using COM1 (usually a
modem or mouse) to another free port first. It's always wise to reboot after each port
assignment change and then double check the setting to see that the change 'stuck'.

That was soooooooo perfect. Thanks
