I would like to configure Outlook 2003 to connect to an Exchange 2003 server
using VPN. Is this possible? I've tried all the connection settings in
Outlook 2003, but, it will only work in Offline mode. I know this used to
work with Outlook XP.

Thank you.

I will clarity if need be.

Sure it's possible. I use it frequently. Outlook over VPN is configured
EXACTLY like it is configured for a LAN, since you are, in effect, on the
LAN. Outlook sees no difference. If things aren't working, I would look to
the VPN client, not Outlook.

Well, the VPN client connection works fine when I just execute it, but
Outlook doesn't seem to attempt to use it. Thanks anyway. I know this is
extremely difficult to diagnose and resolve over email, so I will keep
trying, and if I figure it out, I will post the solution here anyway.

Thanks,

Anthony

Can you ping the Exchange server? Make sure that the Exchange server name
in the account is a fully-qualified domain name if it's not or remove the
domain name if it is. Try also using the numeric IP address to see if that
makes a difference.

I am having the exact same problem.

I can connect to my exchange server and download email, but outlook still
shows me as being "offline".

I am running Cisco's VPN client.

I will try the IP instead of the server name.

Have you unchecked File>Work Offline?
