configuration error after a restore

Hi,
I need help please. I am not new to computers but new to this. I did a
reformat after trying everything else to get rid of sevaral trojans. After
the reformat was completeted and it rebooted I got this message
"Configuration error, this machine will not start until this error has been
fixed, please look in your documentation from Microsoft for the number to
call.. I do not have that documentation anywhere and I dont know what to do.
Can someone help me?

You did a "clean" install?
Wiped the partitions, created new ones, installed Windows XP from
scratch...?
Nothing - I mena nothing - left from your previous install?

Also - is that the entire error message?
Does "Safe Mode" work?
What version is your Windows XP Installation CD?
Or is this a restoration process of some sort given to you by the computer
manufacturer?

Please explain *exactly* how you did what you call a reformat.
