I am trying to play more than i wav file concurrently on
a single power point slide so as to create a more
textured sound effect.Currently it seems like it can only
do so one after another and not 'with' each other. How do
I make wav files play concurrently?

Hi Ed,

This usually has more to do with your sound cards abilities than with
PowerPoint. You see, PowerPoint does not play sounds, it hands them to the
operating system and asks for them to be played. The operating system hands
them off to the MCI (or maybe the WMP in newer versions of PowerPoint (in
some cases)), which sends the sounds to the audio card.

In any case, some sound cards can handle multiple streams of music, some can
not. This probably has more to do with your sound card, than with
PowerPoint.

Thanks Bill,

Would you know what sort of properties of sound cards
might be omportant in determining this?

Open your MCI player and select a song to play.
Repeat the process, so that you have two instances of mplayer.exe (or
mplay32.exe) running, but playing two different songs.

Do you hear both sound files, or just one?

You seem to be building a sound overlay style of slide. You can add each of
the sound files with a trigger to itself, that will let you layer sounds on
top of one another, as long as the sound card in the computer can handle it.

Hi Bill,

Yes, I am trying to layer the sounds on so as to create
more texture in the sound. Ihave found out that I can
play 2 mp3s simultaneously, 2 midis also, and even mp3,
midi and wav altogether.
In fact while experimenting I realize I can actually play
some wavs together. But some wavs just don't work
together. It was these original attempts that didnt work.
Do you have an explanation why some wavs just dont work
simultaneously.
