Howdy all;

I'm looking for a Windows freebie that parallel's *nix's "cat"
(concatenate) command.

Specifically, I'm looking for command-line or graphical proggy that will
append one file to another or, similarly take the contents of any number
of files and pipe it to yet another. I know that "more" can be used for
small files but I need more flexibility.

Any pointers would be appreciated,

Many hex editors will have append and/or prepend capabilities (to
other files), and will do what you seem to want to do. My D-BROWSE
program allows prepending a file with a file. You can also cut out
portions of a file in one step.

To concatenate files, you can try
"copy file1+file2+file3 outputfile". You may want to use the /A or /B
switch, depending on whether or not the files are text files.

Alternatively you can install the real thing in this package:
http://unxutils.sourceforge.net/ . I always dump all those executables into
one folder that I add in my PATH.

File Joiner adds two options to the context menu in Windows Explorer if
you select two or more files. Both options will join the selected files
and create a new file consisting of all the joined files. The first
option will create the joined file in the currently selected directory,
the second option allows you to specify the target directory for the
joined file.

Try FileMerger 3.0. I can't remember where I found it, but the readme
file gives the author's email address as <doesw000 at zonnet.nl>.

Whoops, can't seem to locate it anywhere else either. Posted to ABF.

Interesting difference in size between v2.2 & v3.0.1.

Blimey.

I have three builds, all standalone exe files

exe sizes:

2.0 364kb

2.2 36kb

3.01 1262kb

Interesting how he reduced 2.0 - released perhaps 1999 - to one tenth
of the size for 2.2 - 2003?

Part (alll?) of the bloat in 3.01 can be attributed to porting it to
wxwindows, I assume.
Agent's exe file size doubled when it went to wxwindows.

3.01 has one definite advantage over the other two: it will go to a
full window rather than a small, non sizeable box

Performance - speed of launching, joining - seems the same on all 3.
I find the app to be a useful backup to Camel's MPEG joiner. (or vice
versa)

For those of us that can't see ABF, could you post a URL to download it?

TIA

I guess I wasn't clear about not being able to locate another site which
had "File Joiner" available for download, but after doing extensive
searches I was unable to locate another site which offered access to
"File Joiner". In the absence of a link I offered a copy in ABF, I like
the easy of use and functionality (In explorer highlight files to be
joined - right click - select join here or join in - and it's joined),
maybe one of the other people here with freeware websites would be
interested in hosting "File Joiner".
