I bought some more ram from the computer shop today.
Going from 256 to 512. But after I installed it some
times the computer just wont start but usually all I get
is a error that says basically the following.

SYMPTOMS
When your computer restarts after you install Windows XP
Home Edition, you may receive either of the following
error messages:

System has recovered from a serious error

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
CAUSE
This behavior may occur if either of the following
conditions exist:
One or more of the random access memory (RAM) modules
that are installed in your computer are faulty, or the
memory modules are not compatible with the chip set on
your computer mainboard.
The Page file that is used by the Virtual Memory Manager
may be damaged.

I took out the new ram and put in the old and it starts
right up.

I will take it to the computer shop tomorrow, but does
anybody have any ideas. Or has this happened to you ? I
want to put the ram in my other Dell computer, if it is
compatible. But am wondering if the same error screen
will pop up on it ?

Hi Spidous,

It's pretty obvious the RAM is the root cause with your issue here.
It is crucial that your RAM modules match and are supported by the
Motherboard. If you are not sure of the exact speed of the original RAM
chip I suggest you take it with you to your vendor so they can assist you.
If you have the packing slip for the computer it is usually documented in
the parts list. Contact the Computer Manufacturer for more information
about the RAM and compatible upgrades.

Good Luck,
