Computer wont regonise blank dvds

ok im sick of it.. i have tried everything.. is there something that i have to turn off so that i can burn dvds? it wont recognse tha fact that its a blank dvd..

Well, since Windows XP won't natively burn DVDs, I must ask - what
application is it that is giving you the trouble?

Also, is your drive being recognized correctly in XP? Have you removed it
from the device manager, rebooted and let XP reinstall the drivers for it?

Lastly - can you give us more details?

My system also would not recognize blank DVDs. I installed a firmware
upgrade for the DVD drive and it fixed the problem.
 
I think this might be of help to me, since i'm suffering a similar symptom.

Where would I get a firmware upgrade for a Sony DW-U18A, I've looked in the Sony Storage web-site and it's not listed. Naughty Sony!!
