Hey all,

I have a Toshiba Satellite M45 laptop running WinXP home SP2. For a while,
my NIC card was fine and would connect to my home network. A few months ago,
it started acting up. The computer will no longer recognize that there is a
CAT5 cable plugged into the NIC. I have done most of the standard
troubleshooting on it, including pinging the loopback, trying different
cables, everything short of reinstalling the driver. I don't think that it is
the driver, but I don't want to do that unless it is the only way. This is my
school computer and I can't afford to have it offline for any amount of time.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Try a different network card - either a cardbus or USB model - and see if
that allows a connection. If it does then the internal NIC may be bad.

Hey all,

First off, thanks for the help. I have discovered the problem and fixed it.
I believe it is tied to the hibernate feature. I think the problem starts
when i unplug the network cable from the computer while it is in hibernate,
and then turn it on without the cable plugged in. This would cause a problem
with the values stored for the NIC and cause a conflict. By starting the
computer with a cable plugged in, I was able to reestablish the connection. I
also had to reset some values in the ICS.

Thanks again for all your help.
