HI there..... having several problems. I've had a popup lately, for the last 2 months, actually. It says "PSW.Briss.D...... AVG has located a trojan in c:/system restore information/blah blah blah...." After scowering for months, I was able to find a thread about repairing it. there's the thread: www.computercops.biz/postp192652.html

It told me to disable my system restore, then restart, use my antivirus and delete everything i find, re-enable the system restore, then creat a new restore point. So, I disabled system restore, and rebooted. Since then, my computer is doing nothing but going to the log on screen. Once I hit the user name, it says "loading information" and then it immediately reboots.

Does anyone have any ideas?

can you boot into safe mode ?

oh thank god. yes, i can. what now? i'm going to apologize in advance for not possibly understanding what you're talking about in any future message. i'm a somewhat new xp user.

Greetings,

If you can boot to Safe Mode, then -

1. run AVG Complete scan

2. run any anti spyware you can

3. Use START / run "msconfig" / STARTUP to check the start list - remove
anything suspicious (all you really need is systray, and AVG)

4. then try normal boot, update, scan....

Q.

uggggggggggggggh. when i click to open AVG, i get an AVG error box up that says

Driver{CORE} not found winerr=2

I'm totally screwed, aren't i?

not yet lol
run msconfig goto startup and untick everything, then reboot and try normal
startup

Unfortunately, it's not working. Although, I was able to get in to the computer and NOT be in safe mode for about 10 minutes before everything froze up and I had to reboot. Then the problem started all over again.

Any other suggestions?
